Sognando Giorgio (Hommage to Giorgio Morandi)
A longstanding admiration and love for the Italian painter Giorgio Morandi gave me the inspiration for this body of work called "Sognando Giorgio" (Dreaming of Giorgio). What I love about this work is the simplicity but nonetheless deepness of the subject. It never ceases to amaze me how few inanimate objects, sometimes used over and over again but arranged differently and enhanced with a different colour palette, can express such a vast range of emotions. This body of work has a Gerhard Richter in reverse feel to it. Just as Richter’s works is more often than not mistaken for photographs, so is mine mistaken for paintings. I like that. I like that there is this painterly, romantic and somehow enigmatic emanation.
