Ground Zero 2010
9/11 was without doubt one of, if not the most fateful and dramatic events of our times. The terroristic attack on the Twin Towers led to the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq, changing socio-political scenarios and moreover the lives of millions of people forever. But it changed also something that used to grow and morph in slow and sometimes organically way, the Manhattan Skyline. And it did it beyond recognition, or as Paul Goldberger puts it:.. “a cataclysmic, instantaneous change, frightening chaos, as the biggest things suddenly became the most vulnerable. It turned the entire order of this organic skyline upside down”.
But after all these years is Ground Zero, as the impact site is called, still a site of mourning and remembrance? Or had it rather morphed steadily year after year in something similar to a tourist attraction?
